Calender

Tuesday 15th February: 1st Draft Of Article Finished
Thursday 17th February: Start photoshoots
17th February onwards manipulating images, starting to construct music magazine, write final draft of article.
20th March: project complete

Reader Profile

The audience reading my magazine will be between the ages of 20 to 25 , female and into indie music. It will be a fortnightly magazine to please the audience as they will want to keep up to date on their favourite artists songs and gossip, also by being a fortnightly magazine, the price will be sufficiently lower than a monthly magazine. Due to the age of my target audience the writing style will be more sophisticated and more adult based as they will be expecting a more mature magazine. Swearing and adult humor may be included also.

Feedback 9.2.11

Well done Jenna, you are working well on this project and have developed a good understanding about how you want your magazine to be. Please try to complete all the planning tasks by the end of this week. Next week you should be writing your first draft of the article and taking your photos. Please book the studio and organise the shoot. You will also need to take additional images for the magazines of other artists - mainly for the contents page but possible on the front cover also (depending on your design ideas), so please bear this in mind during planning.

Mood Board

My mood board shows the colour choice for the magazine which will be black and white, by contrasting these two colours i can make the title and image stand out on the front cover. Black and white also gives the magazine a more sophisticated look. The photos i have chosen have a indie slant to them which is what my magazine is focused on. The variety of fonts i have included on my mood board are bold and black and will be in capital letters Even though my magazine is aimed at females i have decided to use a more masculine font as i believe the images and the style of the magazine will be feminine enough.

Finding A Magazine Institution

After Researching different types of magazine institutions, i believe that Bauer Media would be best to produce and distribute my product. Bauer Media is a division of the Bauer Media Group, Europe’s largest privately owned publishing Group. The Group is a worldwide media empire offering over 300 magazines in 15 countries, as well as online, TV and radio stations. Bauer Media owns more than eighty influential media brands spanning a wide range of interests, including heat, GRAZIA, Closer, MCN, FHM, Parker's, MATCH, Magic 105.4, Kiss 100, Kerrang!, Q and the Big City Network. According to Bauer Kerrang, Q, Mojo and Empire are all aimed at the male market, at this moment in time they dont produce any music magazines for female market which could benefit then massively as they will be widening there target audience. They will have experience in producing music magazines and they also produce fashion/lifestyle magazines so they will also have experience in that area too.

Analysing CD Cover's

eliza-doolittle-album-packshot-600x600.jpg

Eliza Doolittle Album Cover

This album uses a large number of animated images, this use of 'pop art' makes the album cover look bright, colourful and fun. This album cover says a lot about the artist herself, instead of a more serious pose, its a lot more fun and quirky showing her extrovert personality. This will definitely appeal to mainstreamers and individuals mainly teenage females as the colours and images used are more feminine. I believe the socio economic status will be middle class.

Pixie Lott Album Cover

This album cover focuses on the artist herself, rather than using other images. This album cover does not follow the rules of magazine conventions as the camera shot is indirect. The name of the artist/album is contrasted against her red statement necklace rather than contrasting it against a black background. By using a grey background with a spotlight it illuminates the artist. This again will appeal to mainstreamers however not individuals as there are many album covers similar to this. They are targeting female teenagers and the socio economic status will be middle class.

razorlightll1.jpg

Razorlight Album Cover

This album is far more simple than the previous two, by using a simplistic design, the buyers will focus directly to the name. The poses of the band members are quite relaxed, as its a more relaxed stance it also appears more masculine. It also highlights the masculinity through the use of colors; black and white, by contrasting these two opposite colour's, the image of the band stands out a lot more. The font used is also very masculine, straight and sharp black letters. This will like the others appeal to mainstream, targeting more of a male audience with middle class background.

Demographic And Psychographic Profiling

Looking at my questionnaire, approximately 27% of my results answered yes to reading music magazines. Even though the results aren’t above 50% I believe this depends on the genre of music one listens too, as those 27% listened to indie and rock music. Suggesting that there are more magazines on offer to fit that certain genre.  Basing my results on the demographic profile I have decided my gender will be Female, Age 20-25, Socio economic status will be middle class. Based on the psychographic profiling my magazine will be targeting mainly the individuals but I do believe that some mainstreamers may be interested in the magazine depending on what artist is on that week. I believe that there is a gap on the market for an indie music/fashion magazine specifically for females as music magazines already on the market are targeting both male and female focusing on the rock genre.
